Synopsis Merlin: Season 5, Episode 13 - The Diamond of the Day: Part Two

Mulder's return leads to his being tried before a military tribunal that seeks to justify and prove the very existence of an alien conspiracy -- and the X-Files.

Review :

Not the best episode, but at least Mulder & Scully are reunited

First off, I think of myself as a big X-files fan, although I didn't become a regular viewer until the 7th season. Why? Well, honestly, I was too much of a scaredy- cat. I remember seeing the previews when it debuted in 1993. It looked new and fresh. And SCARY!!!! And I used to have a hard time watching scary shows. And since no one else I knew wanted to watch it with me, I missed out, bereft of one of the greatest shows ever created.

Eventually, I braved- and wised- up, and started watching the reruns. There was some great acting, writing and directing. Finally, I started watching the new episodes during season 7, which has since become my favorite, introducing me fully into the world of the FBI, aliens, conspiracies and lot's of fun creatures. Later, it became a wonderful thing for me to watch past episodes, watching these lovely characters evolve, grow and change; Scully, in particular, who remains my favorite character.

Season 9 had it's moments. There were a few episodes I could watch over and over again, and others that I never watch for one reason or another. And like the season it concluded, "The Truth" had it's share of both good and well, not so good.

When it originally aired, I watched with breathless anticipation. At that time, I still had not seen a lot of the episodes (particularly from the first 3 seasons), so the flashback clips added some insight to the show. Now that I have seen every episode though, re-watching "The Truth" can be somewhat cumbersome, and I find myself thinking, 'jeez, I've already seen all this before!' I've read that many of the fans felt the same way.

The trial itself did seem a bit unlikely to me as well, although I figured if Mulder did come out of hiding, he would probably get into trouble with the government. I just never imagined that it would be with the military. It also seemed unlikely that Mulder would ask Skinner to represent him, or that the court would allow it in the first place, but then, I'm no lawyer, so what do I know of such things, right? The best part of this episode is the reunion of Mulder and Scully. I think a lot of the fans were waiting for this. And Chris Carter, in his own I-don't-like-emotion-so-I'll-skirt-around-the-whole 'love-thing' at least let his characters have a little bit of happiness at Mulder's return.

Now, some have mentioned that they did or didn't care for the whole Doggett and Reyes thing, for various reasons. Here's my take on it. Agents Reyes and Doggett were decent characters, portrayed by decent actors (whoever was picking on Annabeth Gish, maybe you should see her in something else before you judge. She's really all right.) But what they're NOT is Mulder and Scully. Any of you children of divorce? Any of you since grown up and learned to get along with, or even like your step parent(s)? That's what I think the dislike of Doggett and Reyes comes from, particularly Doggett who was partnered with Scully for awhile during all of season 8. He may be a decent guy, but he's NOT Mulder. And many of us didn't care to see him "with" Scully, although not in the romantic sense at all, of course. It is perhaps, a crude explanation, but it's the closest scenario I can come up with at this late hour.

Another thing before I go. I usually try not to "single" anyone out, but somebody made a nasty comment that deserves a little picking on- after all, he picked on myself and many others with his remarks. A person under the screen name of xyzcosmonaut put down probably at least half of our fans by calling us "shippers" sad. Well, I know that Chris Carter tried to shy away from this aspect of the show, probably fearing that resolving the sexual tension that had been building up between the two leads since the beginning of the series would ruin it. I don't know, but, if you notice, Mulder and Scully never really got to "be together" until the end of the 8th season, when Duchovny was leaving. But one of the bright spots of season 9 to me was keeping Mulder's presence felt, mostly through Scully's constant connection with him particularly through their child, William (oh, and don't get me started on that terrible "resolution"! Ugh!)

But finally, we got to see Mulder and Scully back together like they were meant to be. Maybe that sounds silly or corny, but most people would prefer to have someone to love and grow old with than to die alone. Why should these characters be any different? Love makes the world go round and it comes in many different forms. It IS human nature, and what is wrong with Mulder and Scully loving each other? "The Truth" doesn't offer the truth about a lot of things. It doesn't resolve any of the main characters' turmoils. But it DOES answer one, important question that us SAD, little shippers have always known- that Mulder and Scully love each other!

Synopsis How I Met Your Mother: Season 8, Episode 22 - The Bro Mitzvah

Ted and Marshall hijack Barney for what is his surprise bachelor party. The timing of their hijack leaves Robin high and dry to spend dinner alone with Loretta, to which Robin is not looking forward. Barney, who coins his party as his "bro mitzvah", is quietly excited for what most men would define as one of the defining evenings of their life. However, he is skeptical that Ted and Marshall can pull off his dream bachelor party, as most men's bachelor party is like a standard evening out for Barney. But Ted and Marshall are confident that they can do his party justice, especially as they paid attention to Barney's previous description of his dream bachelor party. But will Ted and Marshall's interpretation of Barney's description match Barney's own?

Review :

Great episode after much time...

well this episode is about bachelor party for Barney... nice twist though... you will love it if you love your friends getting teased... i almost having disinterest in HIMYM... but this episode changed my interest... i like the Chinese mob idea... also that North Korean joke... n Quin is looking hot as stripper and the best part is The Karate Kid... the writers has worked smartly for story as well as Joke like you are doing this to Barney, I love it... and Barney's mom is great, the way she is teaching to do it, with bread- sticks and Ring... awesome... now i am hoping for more good episode from writers...

show more BARNEYISM...!!!

"I Ain't Judas" is the weakest episode of this wonderful Third Season of The Walking Dead. The series seem to be on hold, with nothing new happening in the story. Andrea visiting Rick and the survivors, and Tyreese and his friends telling that they were inside the prison and offering to describe the lay-out is very few for us, fans. I was expecting that Andrea followed Carol's advice but unfortunately she gives up. My vote is seven.

Review :

This show goes on?...

I had no idea this show was going to be a cliff-hanger leading to another bloody season?! I thought this was supposed to be a summer mini-series and that this show was the finale - fool me! Not holding my breath for next season - this story is too tiresome to be that prolonged. I enjoyed watching Dean Norris, hot on the heals of his "Breaking Bad" fame, but come 2014, his number will have cooled off by then. Also, pretty tired of Psycho Junior. Thanks Mr.King & Mr.Spielberg, but No Thanks to 2014!

Synopsis The Mentalist: Season 5, Episode 22 - Red John's Rules

Unlike Sacramento PD people, Patrick is convinced that the latest victim, whose baby was snatched away, is really murdered by a Red John proxy, not the work of a copy cat. It even becomes clear to be meant as challenge for him as the victim turns out to be the ex of Kevin Barlow, hothead member of a circus family the Janes are traditionally close too, embittered over custody. His sinister uncle Sean claims to be a real medium and has a motive. While solving this case, Patrick reveals to Lisbon his shortlist of seven remaining Red john suspects, which is conformed exactly when the serial fiend calls to promise many more bloody hits.

Review :

Gene Pitney's "Something's Gotten Hold of My Heart" Was an Excellent Soundtrack Choice

This is a good final (or maybe)next to final episode. Patrick Jane is pondering his past as well as his present relation with Teresa Lisbon. It is a moody show. The choice of the equally moody "Something's Gotten Hold of My Heart" by Gene Pitney from 1967 AND NOT the more recent and much less emotional Marc Almond version from 1988(which also featured Gene Pitney) was a perfect choice to end this show. The Pitney version utilizes Pitney's powerful voice which in this case does deliberately and to good effect contain "angst" (contrary to what is written in the IMBb Mini Biography). The angst in his voice on this the original version of the Greenaway Cook composition is used to good effect: it hits the listener in the gut (and this does not happen on the Almond version).

"Angst" is defined in The Free Dictionary as "A feeling of anxiety or apprehension often accompanied by depression." Nothing fits this song better nor could have been a better match for what is going through Jane's mind in this episode-or maybe all of the episodes of the series. Just as in the song, there is a certain disquietude that pervades "The Mentalist."

Perhaps this song should be the Soundtrack song for each episode of the series. It is not merely a "teen angst" song from the 60s, nor was Pitney just a "teen angst" singer from the 60s. Pitney was not just a 60s teen idol. He was "COOL." Patrick Jane is "COOL!" The song fits Jane, this episode and the whole show all too well.

It will be interesting to see if this song did a "Gotcha" to those viewers who have not heard it before. It was not a chart-maker in the US (130 on the Billboard Bubbling Under chart in 1967). It was a big chart hit in the UK of Writer/Creator Bruno Heller, making number five. While not a chart topper in Simon Baker's Australia it did hit no. 69. (And Pitney, though deceased, is as popular in those two countries as he ever was.) While doing my best at re-engineering the Pitney "Something's Gotten Hold of My Heart" from master quality sources, an endeavor of several weeks, this episode was on my television. To my amazement near the end I recognized the first two notes of "Something's Gotten Hold of My Heart" as it started. I knew it was "Something's Gotten Hold of My Heart" (but not which version) after just the first two instrumental notes! Probably the Marc Almond version, but by the fourth note I knew it wasn't, hearing the great instrumentation from the Musicor (Pitney)version. Perhaps I had heard it enough in my re-engineering endeavor. To my pleasure it was the definitive Pitney version. On master quality material it has great instrumentation such as low strings like violas, etc. This helped underscore the song's anxious and depressing but somehow hopeful theme. Having spent so much time with the song trying to make it sound as good as it should, it would interest me to know if what was used on the "Mentalist" soundtrack showcased this instrumentation. The audio on the program is Dolby Digital engineered in high fidelity. The song is solely in monaural. No stereo mixes of it were released, nor as far as I could determine, do any exist. I could find no stereo source material at all for my re-engineering endeavor. According to Gene Pitney the song was recorded in London and he carried the track back to the States to put the on the vocals in the New York studio. Likely this was mixed down onto the mono master and that's what there is.

Since I had first written this review on 7 June 2013 I have come upon another Gene Pitney version of this song! No it is not in stereo, but it is nearly half a minute longer at about four minutes and does not have the strings in the versions heretofore released. They kick in at about thirty seconds in the familiar versions, but do not in this one. There is more extensive use of organ and drums on this one, but the strings (most notably missing are the low strings) which are pretty much just not there. Mr. Pitney said that when he got back to the states after recording this in England he realized that the strings were missing: "I don't know why, but we originally recorded the track without violins." When listening to it upon return he "realized that we couldn't have the song without violins. ...They booked time at Bell Sound (Studio) (to add the strings)." Apparently the four minute version I came across was an artifact that remained of the song before the strings were added and was then further edited. The vocals are different in several sections. This version is certainly different enough from the familiar British hit version yet good in its own right that it warrants consideration for use on "The Mentalist", such as an opening and ending song, or whatever theme-songs are called.

Review :

It doesn't take sherlock to figure out that this episode was mind-blasting!!!!! :D

So i saw the finale of sherlock season 2 today thinking it would be another good episode of sherlock, but i was wrong in all ways possible! Good is an understatement, this was definitively the best episode of television i will see this year unless of course breaking bad would pull off a stunner. Season 2 tried to portray the sherlock as more "human" and this finale completes the arc brilliantly. The acting, the direction and the writing( oh god the writing!!) were simply outstanding. The episode had a brilliant blend of drama, emotion and edge of the seat suspense. In most of sherlock episodes you know that sherlock is going to solve the crime , its just about how he does it and who is the main culprit, but this episode just kept me guessing. I had no idea what was going to happen, every second was a " will he or wouldn't he" type of moment. The final 20 minutes took the show from brilliant to whatever is much better than that. Martin freeman was brilliant in the emotional moments completely justifying peter Jackson wanting him for the hobbit and even Benedict cumberbatch got a chance to show the emotional yet reserved side of sherlock, which i think he did beautifully. All i can say is season 3 -"where are thou?"
