In Brooklyn, Marshall Eriksen, a terribly insecure, sissy but sweet law student, pops the question to his assertive girlfriend Lily Aldrin, in an inadvertently explosive way (with champagne). This makes their year long cahoot, Ted Mosby, anxious that he may be left all alone. His overbearing 'other best friend', Barney Stinson, forces Ted to play a 'pick-up' game in the bar where he has decided to hunt for Lebanese girls. To both their surprise, Ted actually meets a suitable girlfriend, TV reporter Robin. As soon as he sees her on TV, Ted rushes to her apartment (with five dogs) to declare his love - while the others wait in Bangladeshi Rajit's cab- which startles her.

I Saw Ted Saying "It's physics, Marshall. If the bottom bunk moves, the top bunk moves too." I Am A Huge Fan Of HIMYM & I'm STILL Wondering How They Got Away With Saying That On A PG Rated TV Show. When It Was Coming Out I Assumed It Was A Chick Show Like "Sex & The City" I Still Regret Thinking That. This Will Forever Be Remembered As The Beginning Of One Great TV Series.

Synopsis Season of the Witch

A 14th century Crusader returns to a homeland devastated by the Black Plague. A beleaguered church, deeming sorcery the culprit of the plague, commands the two knights to transport an accused witch to a remote abbey, where monks will perform a ritual in hopes of ending the pestilence. A priest, a grieving knight, a disgraced itinerant and a headstrong youth who can only dream of becoming a knight join a mission troubled by mythically hostile wilderness and fierce contention over the fate of the girl. When the embattled party arrives at the abbey, a horrific discovery jeopardises the knight's pledge to ensure the girl fair treatment, and pits them against an inexplicably powerful and destructive force.

 

Review :

A decent fantasy film

I am convinced that the rather small rating for this film can be mainly attributed to the current fad of criticising Nicholas Cage movies. Season of the Witch has very interesting ideas, many well executed, and I would deem it as worth watching. I will explain why.

The heroes of the film are Nicholas Cage and Ron Perlman, two crusaders with a conscience, who disgusted by their latest conquest resulting in slaughter of women and children, decide to desert the cause and return home. The only thing that awaits them is the plague and a mysterious (sexy young) witch accused of bringing it onto the Earth. One must take her to a special place where a magical book is found that can dispel the horrible disease. Guess who gets to do that?

The beginning and end scenes were horrible. I would say they lowered the overall quality of the movie. What I found very interesting was the dilemma of Cage's character, who is doubtful that the girl is actually a witch and desires her brought to fair trial. Most of the other characters were also quite complex, escaping the cardboard cliché of doom and enriching the script. The acting was good, the effects reasonable, without being much over the top.

Bottom line: if one can forgive the occasional scenes that are completely lame and seem seeded by a demonic presence in an otherwise decent film, the movie is quite watchable, certainly above the average of the genre. I've enjoyed watching it and may so will you.
